Principles of Design posters

Visual Communications students test their skills at creating posters demonstrating knowledge of principles of design, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Each student is selecting two principles of design to communicate visually to the audience.

Students have been working on creating abstract opposite compositions this week using greyscale color schemes. 

Graphic design week 2

Students have been working hard this week to advertise a product on a one page magazine ad. They selected a target audience and chose a product to advertise to the audience. They worked in manually achieving a successful composition based on options we covered class; symmetry, asymmetry, radial balance, rule of thirds, positive and negative space and golden ratio. We had so many successful compositions!  We also had a lot of fun solving design issues as we went.

Painting A - week 2

Students in Painting A are experimenting with color schemes and Principles of Design. Great progress this week!

First week back for the 2015-16 school year!

After a summer of preparing for these amazing students to enter the Art Room again, they have finally arrived.  Some are dragging themselves in and some are already sailing.  Regardless of how they feel when they enter my classroom, I meet them where they happen to be: emotionally, physically, psychologically.

I am so excited to finally be able to facilitate an AP Studio Art course.  My students have been preparing mentally and artistically throughout the summer months and have come to me at the start of the academic year with an open mind.  They are currently exploring the scoring guidelines of AP Studio Art portfolio submission, generating original and big ideas and beginning to ask themselves essential questions in regards to their ideas and objectives.  I couldn't be happier about their first week accomplishments.
